Regulatory compliance requires both public and private companies to assess the fair value of recorded goodwill and identifiable intangible assets from time to time. Valuation is the analytical process of determining the current or projected worth of an assets or company.  There are so many techniques to do valuation of assets which typically categorized into three core valuation approaches (Asset, Income and market approaches).

Most treaties and court decisions encourage the valuer to consider more than one method, which must be reconciled with each other before arriving at a value conclusion.
